Be careful, take that guys advice and start out very small at first. Do that jump hundreds of times before you step it up.

Please be carefull. Start small and work your way up. That way you will be able to ride your dirtbike for many years to come. Good luck, Roostrider got you off to a great start, YZ165

The only point that I see wrong in their jump building tips for a dirtbike is that they say to build the lip almost straight up, that will be too steep for how short the jump is on a dirtbike. It will tend to kick the rear end up. Try building it a little less steep. Make the jump longer than your bike. Take YZ165's advice: If you are hurt all of the time, you will never get the opportunity to improve your skills. I know a lot of people who have ridden above their heads and gotten seriously injured, so take it easy. Go big but keep it safe.

I agree... a jump that is longer than your bike will allow you to 'glide' off... a short one 'throws' you off... You'll have to start small and work from there to see what works best for you. Some people are naturals at jumping, some never seem to get it, most of the rest of us are somewhere in between and it takes a while but it comes.

Don't work too far into your 'fear zone'. Considerable fear implies lack of confidence, lack of confidence is usually the result of your knowledge of your limited skills. Going beyond your skills results in lucky 'close ones' or injuries.

Once your confidence is up, it means your skills are too.

No matter what you think you look like doing big air, if you aren't confident, it shows, and you would look better catching smaller air. I have watched some pretty amatuer guys going for the big air.... It doesn't impress me, it makes me wince wondering when I will need to call 911.

Oh, and don't forget to have fun... lol... post a link to some pics when you get some jumps built

I built a small 20ft double. the jump around 3 1/2ft to 4ft tall with a medium lip and landing around 2 to 3ft tall with a long slope for overkill. Just an Idea. I have a cr250 and can fly over it in 2nd. but be care full

wow

well i made a little ramp lol hehehe just to try it out and it seemed like i got off the ground about 1-1 1/2 feet so my dad says :) its not a big ramp like its half the size of my bike. but it seems like it works i land evenly on both tires at the same time so im just gonna keep jumping it and jumping it like a 100 times lol like u said :yeehaw: :yeehaw: :yeehaw:

I wish my dad had been that cool about it. I had to sneak off with my buddies to jump. Consequently we werent all that safe about it... come to think of it, he didn't make me wear a helmet either.... maybe he was trying to get rid of me?

Sounds like you're on the right track. Work it up from there, and being your dad is cool about it, make sure someone is around, just in 'case' (pun intended)

If you can, try to get your buddies involved its allot more fun to have your friends, along with your dad cheering you on. It really helps with the confidence level.. Plus keeps you interested its cool to talk about it the next day.
