I would recommend the KDX220. You are used to a KX80 so the 2-stroke power style won't be a shock to you. The KDX is a very good bike and there is a ton of information about the bike.

The bike is excellent on trails and is pretty good at climbing hills.

Make sure the 99 is in good shape and shop around if you get a chance.

Good luck.

Compare an XR200 and a KDX 200 side by side and ask yourself "why was I ever considering the XR?" The KDX is far superior to the XR in almost every way, and it wil leave a lot more room for growth. The KDX can be ran as slow or as fast as you want in the woods, the XR can be ran as slow... or slower than you want. at 5'-5" you are almost too big for the XR, you can ride the KDX well after you stop growing... Grown men race them all the time!!! I had one for 8 years and it never once broke down.

my fourteen year old went from a kx80 to a kdx220. be ready for a major learing curve! i feel the it was to much of a jump for him! he left a bike that was a bit to small to one that was to big! he could make that little 80 do any thing that he wanted it to do! the 220 told the boy what it wanted, and on the trails the taller bike took away a lot of his confidence! I'd stick with your 80 for one more year.

People are really dissing the XR200, but it is by no means a bad bike. Once the exhaust baffle is removed the bike has enough power the bring up the front wheel in 3rd gear. The suspension is very plush albiet soft. Not the best for jumping but excellent for woods riding. Engine makes torquey power and all in all the XR200 is a good all around bike.

kx80rider -

why limit your options to an XR200 or KDX 200 (or 220)? both of these are outstanding trail bikes, but there are lots of others as well. when you limit yourself to 1 or 2 choices it makes shopping very difficult. my advice is do your homework, figure out exactly what you want your bike to do, then make a list of bikes that will do what you want: XR200, KDX 200-220, XR 250, YAM WR250, KTM SC's-EXC's, and so forth. then find the best deal.

as far as the comparison between the XR200 and KDX200-220, woods_rider1 is pretty much on the money. there really is no comparison. as fine a bike as the XR200 is, it is seriously over matched by either of the KDX's.

also, 70 marlin has a good point. IMO, a bike thats a little too small is much funner than one that is too big. i'd stick with that kx80 till you can no longer stand it.

happy hunting
