XR 80 clutch

My 12 year old is struggling with the clutch on our 2000 model XR80. The clutch pull is actually stiffer than my 98 KDX 220. I have installed the MSR EZ pull lever in the easiest position but it is still too much. Does anyone know if the Moose EZ clutch cable adapter works well? Or if lighter springs are available for that model. Any help will be appreciated.

Mike, I ordered the moose unit when my son had his XR, I had to return it due to the stock cable gauge being too thick for it to work with the moose. If you can find a smaller cable it may work fine.

I'd like to know too. My daughter's xr100 is the same way. She hasn't complained, but she doesn't know any better yet. She did squeeze my cr250 lever and noticed it was much easier than hers. She also has trouble finding neutral sometimes, i talked to someone else that has the same problem on their xr. Picky I guess.

I too have this problem with my daughter's xr80. ran it by jim cook down at smackover. He suggested if it gets too bad one can always go to hydraulic.

He even mentioned a non magura for about half the price. If this persists w/ my daughter that's what Im going to do.

Hydraulic clutches can be stiff too! The one on a friends KTM is stiffer than on both my bikes(and they aren't light either!).

Thanks for the info on the hydraulics, seems that my daughter also is having true problems with distance and force on the clutch. sigh...Practiced starting/stopping last night in the front yard and the web space and lower thumb needed iced afterward. any suggestions are welcomed. If this isnt fun for her then she'll NOT want to pursue it. Thanks, everyone

Make the dealer lube the crap out of the cable for you.

Cable's fine, it's the springs and distance between the bar and lever that's a problem. Little finger tips cant pull it with out holding her thumb only on the bar and stretching to get a handful of clutch Maybe if I can get another lever with a different bend where she'll be able to get her fingers around it and get more leverage ?

Different lever sounds like a good idea. Also, I never use my clutch except for starting/stopping/slipping. Well on a MX track/fast woods course I will "powershift" using the clutch, but unless I'm flogging it I never touch it. Maybe if she clutchless-shifted until she's a little bigger it will help save her hand.
