nwe to the site and have a bone head question. livin in nor cal and have accesss to a lot of great trails on my property. trouble is im tired of loading the bike and gear into the truck, driving five or so miles to public land for more trails. i want to ride my 83 xr 500r to the sweet spots. is there any law that prohibits regestering this old bike as a street legal machine? if i can what parts do i need to make it so? remember I live in california and our laws on everything are F#@$%D!!!! thanks for your help...troubled thumpmaster..

Your bike can be dualsported in California. Like kmccune suggested, check out www.bajadesigns.com They have complete kits that will add the necessary equipment to make it street legal. Go to the DMV website and download DMV Directive 888. This directive spells out what is necessary to license your xr.
