Hi, i got sent a cylinder for my '97 yz250 which i bought over the net. When i recieved it is noticed that the manifold and powervalve cover was different to my '97 barrel. I found in my manual that it looks like it came off a '94 yz250 cylinder. I was wondering if anyone knew whether a '94 barrel would fit my '97 250. I know i might have to buy a different pipe but whether the ports would work. :pissed:

Yes it will fit, and you will have to get anouther pipe. One reason these heads are found on later YZ250's is that the 1994 head is a better jug and head in some respects. The trick of the day was to buy a 1995-1997 YZ250 and even befor you got it from the dealer was to install a 1994 Jug and head. Its a non issue for me but my local racers Buds have been looking to get me '94 jug. The idea I heard of that set up is that it makes a bit more low end torque and levels off really well. I hope this helps a bit.

I am not a big fan of boring, I would rather get a port job. I weigh in at 240lb with all my gear on(17 stone i think) and my 250YZ can still kick my butt. If you really use all the power of your bike then try the port job. I just think the big bore on bike that makes around 47hp stock is overkill for the woods.
