Have a 2000 YZ250, stock sprockets, stock chain length (114). Have an 8-paddle Chen Shin paddle that tears apart the air box mud flap and rubs the swing arm. Is there a lower profile paddle that I should be running? Do I need to use a longer chain? Also, should I be running a 10-paddle with a 250? Thanks

We have been using the Pirelli MT410 Scorpion. I had the same problem with a full paddle tire tearing up my mud flap and even hitting the swing arm and fender. The Pirelli hooks up great and pulls smoother; it will not send the front wheel high as you leave the edge of a jump. You could also take the mud flap off and put a fabric shock cover over it.

Running a longer chain definately helps. Just one or two extra links should do the trick. Are you running the regular chen shin or the sand pro? The sand pro has taller cups. I have been running the 10 paddle on my YZ, and I really see no advantage. It makes the bike harder to shift and seems to drag it a bit more.

I would say run the 8 paddle myself. Tried both and I think the 10 is too much for a 250 no matter what brand. Like was previously mentioned, lengthen your chain a link or two and you should be fine. I would leave the mudflap on if possible though. Keep as much of that fine sand away from your shock as possible. You might want to try the Scat Hooker. I loved that tire and it doesnt have a huge profile. :aj:

Thanks for the info. FYI, I'm using the Sand Pro 8-paddle. I'll try adding a length or two. If that doesn't work, I'll try one of the tires you guys suggested.
