I know that this probably is a religious question but I'm want to get a 2 stroke for enduros/Hare Scrambles but I don't know which would be the best. I like the weight of the CR but I also like the motor of the YZ ( I currently ride a YZ250F).

Can anyone share some insight on either of these (2000-2002)bikes and share some good or bad experiences?
Thx!!
Oh, by the way 2001 YZ250F for sale!!

I don't mean to confuse you but being an off road road rider myself(cr 250),I would check also brands like ktm(they have a nice 200cc)and see how you like it.Test riding one would be a smart thing to do.

Definitely a toss up. The Honda's less cramped if you're a tall guy. There's a number of 2001 CR250's in cycle trader which can be had for a good deal.

Try riding them. If you're a Yamaha guy, it'd be tough to go wrong with a 2001. They're good all around bikes.

I have a 2001 YZ250. great bike. I have ridden motox and nasty, rooty trails w/hill climbs. the bike revs quickly and also has good low end. It has had suspension work and is excellent in all conditions.

I have not ridden a new CR250, but I hear they are great bikes too.

Which ever one you get the best deal on, it's a tough choice.

Thx for the input. I am a shorter guy, 5'7" 172lbs so one of the main things that I can touch the ground and it is easily managed in the woods. I've had good luck with the 250F since my previous 2 stokes (both KX250's) would beat me in the woods, they were also heavy and a little tall for me. For the life of me I could never get the thing to turn!! I then went to a couple of 125's but after racing on in an enduro it was a little too much effort since you had to keep it on the pipe all of the time. The pblm for me with the 250's is that they tend to have so much power that it wears me out trying to hold onto the thing, the 250F has less so it's a good fit. The pblm with the 250F:
- a little heavy

I didn't finish my post so here's the rest (fat fingered a command no doubt).
- I've had pblms starting while it's hot, I mean like 5 minutes or more!!
- I've spend lots of $$$ trying to keep it quiet but it then doesn't run well
- stalling and starting the beast (did I say that twice!!)
- no decent large tank for it, I like the Cyrca 2.5(?) gal tanks

My 01 YZ 250 is lighter than my 93 Yam WR250. you can feel the difference. the 01YZ250 turns sharp, settles into the corner great and is well balanced. It does hit hard. It will go thru the gears as fast as you can shift and barely change engine tone..... I guess a flywheel weight would calm it down some, but I like it this way!!! You may be able to find a bike w/the mods that you are looking for. though a KTM200 may be something to look at closely.....
