Uh, not exact but similar matchup is my 04 220, to a riding buddy's 03 KX250. The 250 completely smokes me, and the other guy outweighs me by about 30 lbs.
I'd have to agree, there really is no comparison there. The KX has way, way more motor than the KDX. They are totally different beasts designed for totally different uses.
I guess I'm just worried I may be disappointed with the power compared to my 02 KX250 or my 03 KLX400SR. Maybe that's the question I should have asked....How does a stock KDX220R compare to a 03 KLX400SR? I imagine the power would be exactly in-between the KLX and KX? Any thoughts? Thanks in advance.
Not really sure how they compair to a klx I've never ridden one but my modded 200 is quit a bit faster than an xr400 but the xr is about even with a stock 220.
I ride a lot with a particular group of guys that decided that the cfr 450 was the only way to go. When the going gets tight, I smoke them all on my '02 KDX 220. More power is not what gets you going fast in the tight stuff, but that isn't what you were asking.
For the woods, I bet you'll be fastest and least worked by the KDX. Get out on those fireroads and power lines, though, and the KDX may start to feel like a minibike.
My kdx feels like a CAT compared to a drz/klx400E model. I've ridden the S but not side by side comparison. My kdx(200) makes similar power down low with a gnarly woods pipe but the power tapers off way early compared to the drz. Mine's built for the woods.
My buddy has a DRZ 400S and my KDX 220 is better down low to early mid. But like said above I get smoked on the flat smooth fire roads, but then I got smoked on flat smooth fire roads on my old YZ250WR by the DRZ too! The KDX will walk away from the KX or especially the DRZ in tight stuff.
