From my experience all the mentioned 50's require a lot of maintenance to keep them running right. We have had really good luck with the ktm though, just keep the washers in the clutch clean.

JJRMXR, I went through the same thing last spring for my 6 yr old.
Wasnt a mx mechanic but learned quick.
KTM is the lesser of evils where repair costs come in, but yea they do break and wear out but KTM has more dealers ou there and a few online retailers too.
In one summer of riding or racing every weekend....he wore out front and rear wheel bearings, steering stem bearings too! ( Man I hate that steering stem! Always loose.)Had Jetting issues, and a broken rear brake adjuster. Never killed the clutch though. Guess I'm lucky. Hes turning 7 and getting on a kx65 next spring. Good bye 50's! Wish you Good luck. My one suggestion.....If he is tall enough, put him on a pro sr. or a sr. adventurer and get more than one season on it. He'll grow into it.
It beats going through an jr.adventurer, to a pro jr, to a pro sr.
