"New" to riding

I'm getting back into riding. Been away for about 8 years. I know I want to ride trails. Use to race Harescrambles and was good(at one time). I have no idea what is available now. I want something I can ride easy for a while, but I know I will want to get back to race pace...was a top B-Class rider.

Suggestions?

KDX's are nice bikes. Good to get back into riding on...but then with a couple upgrades they are race class bikes...dont try a 02CR250 unless u wanna climb a tree ( not that i did that of course ;) )

Either a KTM 300 M/XC or E/XC. Has a lot of low end power so you can just cruz or has the pull of a big bore when you want to rip.

Some guys do well on stock or near stock jap mxers. Many others prefer euro bikes eg, ktm, huksy, gasgas, tm and others. All can be competitive in stock form in the right hands. I'd try bumming some test rides or asking your local dealers if they have demo bikes available. Sorry it's so vague but you haven't given us a lot to go on :D.
