roostafish says he saw lafferty riding a 03 450 along with a new 540. whats the word on these new bikes? i also heard about a 2003 250sx (2-stroke) all new with 56hp! from a ktm rep.
Why would you need a 540:scream: A stock 520SX is faster than any full factory race 250, and a 250 with 56hp is not realistic, the 380SX only makes around 50-52 hp.
I assumed they were slated for '03 production because of how professional they look. However I did not hear from the KTM folks that this was the case. They sure looked good!
They were involved in testing during the DR 24 hour torture test. Again, I do not know exactly what the scoop is on these, but they are cool. The bikes they had would not have even caught my eye, except they had the bikes all black and silver plastic, and K-style graphics, they were striking to look at. Then I saw it, the decal that said 540, I said to myself, whoa, walked over and saw the 450, whoa again. Just stood there and drooled, ran back and got my camera, took a couple of photos. When I get them processed, I'll scan and post! MR.WR. Keep bugging me!
KTM has the 540 decals for bikes that have had the 540 SXS kit applied. I still hold high hopes for the production model being 540 next year, now that the 450 will almost certainly come out.
Roostafish.....No problem! I hope it will not take as long for you to develope those pictures, as it did for you to send me the owners manual:p :p :p :p
I have it from a pretty reliable source confirming that the 2003 250SX makes mid 50 hp's.[this was with a DOMA pipe]
Lets just say he is the mechanic for the top KTM rider in the USA.
Another clue - he comes from the same place as me.:D
So, what you are saying AfricaOffrd is that according to Andrew Langston the 2003 250 SX is supposed to be even more powerful than the 2002? Do you personally know Andrew? Any other word on changes to be made to the '03? Thanks
I know Andrew quite well. When he was resident in SA, he was part of our group of offroad riding buddies. We have stayed in touch over the years, despite him now being in the States wrenching for his nephew Grant.
I havent had any more details of the 2003 bike from him so I cant offer any more light on the subject. However, another mutual friend from SA will be visiting him in the next week. We will see what further details can be extracted about the new models.
Grant and his trainer, John, were in SA in December. I chatted to them briefly while they were here. Grant appears fit and strong. Look for him to kick some serious butt in 2002.
Thanks for the quick reply. The whole Langston clan seems like good people. I'm pulling for Grant alot this year. If he stays injury free I think he should have a 125 National title at the end of the year. Keep us updated if ya hear anything else.
