For Whats it's worth , since I've changed from a 42 to a 45 slow jet " 35mm carbs " , both our bikes will start on the first kick everytime. Choke on for a few seconds and your all set. :ride:
I ran a 42 pilot all last Summer, and it always started first kick. Come some cool mornings in September and October, starting became very erratic. I knew if it didn't start the first kick or two, then it wouldn't start. Switched to a 45, and it started first kick all throughout the Winter.
Put a 55 in there and it will start more often. :-) A larger, or way too large pilot helps cold bikes crank more easily. That doesn't necessarily mean it is the correct jet for riding after the bike is warm. The jet that does that is the jet you may want to test for.
