1) 6'1" male, 190lbs.
2) I would say I am an intermediate rider
3) Plan to ride MX tracks.
4) I raced 80's about 10 years ago...C class.
5) Will possibly race in the future.
6) I will do all my own work...I build engines, race cars, bikes, etc.
7) Looking at either the CRF250R or the CRF450R.
8) Found a good dealer for the bike.

I just copied the FAQ info and filled my info in. Basically it is a toss up for me between the CRF250R and the CRF450R. I rode my friends '06 450R the other weekend and really liked the bike. But I was wondering if I should start out with the 250R and later get the 450? I weigh around 190, prolly 200 with gear.

Thanks for any feedback.

There's really no point in getting one and changing to the other... they are the same class bike. The 4-stroke will be easier to learn on, the 2-stroke easier to maintain.

Uhhh. He's looking at the CRF250R or CRF450R. At your weight I'd get the 450 or maybe a 250 two-stroke. A 125 class will probably feel a little underpowered once you get used to it.

Yeah, I am going to stick with the 4 stroke.

OOpps... my bad.

That being said, I've ridden since 1972-3, had 2 450's (04-05) and moved down to a 06 CRF250 ... still a tough call. I have more fun on the 250F, but I'm not out to beat anyone on the track, just to have fun.

How much do you weigh?

I am not out to be a supercross star, but want to have fun and be some what competitive if need be. Thanks for all the good feedback.

For what it's worth . . .

My A class buddy is maybe 190 lbs (+/- 10 lbs) and Saturday night he was on a borrowed 250f racing against 450f's. He finished 2nd but lost to a kid on the 450 - my buddy is definitely faster than that kid on equal bikes and he was complaining that he's too heavy for the 250f and that the 450s were pulling away from him on the straights.

My biggest reason for recommending a 450 is versatility. For strictly track riding you'd probably be more than happy with a 250F. But if you want to be able to hill climb, go to the dunes, or just mess around, the 450F is a lot more versatile. I love smaller bikes (I'm also only 155lbs) but even my 200 two-stroke is under-powered for play riding. But for trail riding and racing, the 200 is perfect for me.

I appreciate all the feedback. I am a rider that likes to ride rythm sections / jumps, etc. I ride BMX trails and mountain bike trails and used to ride heavily. I am kind of thinking the 450 for some ease in preloading, etc.

Thanks a lot guys. I can get great deals on the Honda's so I am going to probably stick with them.
