What Causes / Cures Clutch Fade?

My 93 CR265 is experiencing clutch fade like never before. Seems to me it is caused by heat. When the motor is cool it feels normal. After a hill climb it feels like crap. Loosy Goosy and won't fully disengage.
Could it be that I like my cable too tight, allowing for slippage? As the slippage continues, the clutch gets hotter and fades?

I rebuilt the clutch late last fall with an EBC clutch kit. Steel plates were included in the kit. Maybe I'll try backing off the cable, start my ride with it looser than I usually do, see what happens.

Yes, I would dare to say that heat is probably the culprit. Just as it is with brakes. You need about a nickels worth of slack between the lever and the perch. You will probably find better overal performance if the clutch is allowed to hook up instead of slipping all of the time also. Similar to the way drag racers like to get the tires hooked up as quickly as possible so the car can get down the track, rather than just spinning the full quarter.
