I just read a mag that had the McLaren F1 in it, it's fast, and i downloaded a video of a guy going 391 Km/hr(241Mph), and it's quite fast, anyway i was wondering if any of you have or has done any timings on your bikes, just would be kinda cool to know the speed of our bikes.

I think it'd be roadandtrack.com, cause thats what magazine it is in. And wow that is a nice car. They had the McLaren F1, Porsche 959, and Ferrari F40, all in one magazine. I almost cried.

Not sure about top speed but Flash's ('82 XL500r) 1/4 mile times are:
14.734 sec. @ 86.12 mph.
("Motorcyclist" magazine sept. 1982)
Sorta lackluster eh?
But i'm sure that was measured -w- some skinny 150lb. editor on board....

0-60? I don't think my YZ250F will even do 60 mph! I'll bet I could smoke that McLaren down a two-tracker though. Especially if it was whooped out! LOL!

I keep wondering when the sport bikes will break the 200 mph barrier. I'll bet one of those GXSR's would give that car a 1/4 mile run for its money.

I remember years ago....15 or so....that one of the bike mags...either Dirt Bike or Dirt Rider did a test on a CR500 in 1/4 mile.  I wish I could remember what the result were but I know they had problems with wheelies and burnout.

I plan to dual purpose my CR500 and I have every intention of trying out a 1/4 mile.  I'm not sure if the insurance nazis would allow a strip to let me run it, but we'll see.

The 'Busa (before the computer limiting) was hitting 201mph. That was 3 years ago I think...

there is a GSXR1300 around here that is standard except for a longer swingarm, and it does 10.1 down the quarter. not sure what rear tyre he was using.

Interesting......not bad really, for a bike with about 35-36hp. I was always curious as to what my XR650R would have been able to do. Judging by what that 500 did, maybe 12's for the 650?

These are not the fastest cars on the road but here are the results of the 2002 Big Bend Open Road Race.  The race was shortened to 20 miles from the normal 56 (if I remember correctly) because of fog on the course.  The fastest of the unlimited cars was timed with radar at 210 mph on one stretch of road.  They don't allow bikes and probably never will because of TXDot requirements/concerns.  The course is US385 between Fort Stockton and Sanderson Texas.

Now often do you see a NASCAR car running on the street.

The latest big bore sport bikes are reported in the mags as doing 1/4 mile times in the high 9's. The 'Busa and the ZX-12 were the two I believe. The 'Busa for sure. Pretty darn fast and impressive considering the bang for the buck as compared to high performance automobiles.

After replacing the front tire and the factory recalled rear tire valve stem nut on an 02 ZX-12, I can confirm that the bike is scary fast.

I downloaded the video of the mclaren f1 from Kazaa, that thing was screaming, not to stear off my own topic but wouldn't a street bike going over 200mph have problems with areodynamics, just a thought.

No one has ever timed there bike? It's gives you something to brag about, maybe.

Actually i think it was 32 bhp. (according to my friendly neighborhood Honda dealer).
In that issue of "Motorcyclist" (9/82) they rated it at only 25.7bhp.
(i think someone was sniffing preimium fumes that day.)
The sad part is that the bike it was up against (a 1982 Yamaha XT550) was rated at 34.2bhp and turned a 13.995 quarter mile -w- a 90.72 mph trap speed!!
Still not too bad for a couple of 20 year old 320+pound "dual sports", eh? :thumb:

V65--3.2?

VMAX--2.8?? (70 in a 20 about a block from the stopsign--not pretty :ugg:

Boss Hoss 502/502--probably 1.5 if you can throw a slick on AND hang on.

I don't think a dirtbike has to worry about wind resistance when doing the 1/4 mile. It will top out way before it anyhow, gearing I think is the biggest prob.
