"The top speed wars are over, and the 1999-2000 Suzuki Hayabusa will likely
retire as the fastest production motorcycle ever sold. Under pressure from
government officials in France and Holland, Japanese motorcycle
manufacturers have agreed to electronically limit the top speed of
streetbikes to 300 kph (186 mph) and to not mention horsepower, speed,
acceleration or power-to-weight ratios in advertising and promotional
materials. Speedometers will not read past 300 kph, either. Officials in
France and Holland freely admit that they have no evidence that
ultra-high-speed has contributed to rising motorcycle accident rates in
Europe, and that in fact the rising number of crashes may actually be linked
to a boom in the sales of 125cc machines to inexperienced riders. But
despite the lack of evidence that fast bikes cause crashes, officials acting
upon personal outrage threatened to ban the Suzuki Hayabusa and Kawasaki
ZX-12R and to impose draconian horsepower limits on motorcycles if the
manufacturers did not tone it down; ironically, France already has a
100-horsepower limit on new streetbikes. The impact of the new agreement is
already being felt in Europe, where magazine testers have found that the
2000 Kawasaki ZX-12R went-surprise, surprise-186 mph."

i dunno about 0-60, mostly cuz i cant even GET to 60mph... i clocked my bike at 55 mph, and i can honestly believe a 250 can top out around 80, 125's around 65-70, and i have never ridden an 80 so i can't report there. i expect a 60 to be on par with my bike, etc.
in the march 2002 issue of DIRT BIKE, they did top speed runs for a KX500, XR650, KTM540exc, and a Husaberg 650.

- the XR650:average of 113 mph
- the KTM540: average of 109 mph
- the KX500: 107.6 mph average, but it had jetting problems.
- the husaberg had an average of 103.6 mph, but it was mostly stock, just sprocket changes.
the wind was a HUGE factor, but those are impressive numbers anyways. :eek:
That particular article, if I remember right, was a top speed shootout. They were doing everything they could to gain speed. Extremely high gearing, removing the front fender & shrouds, etc. The Honda guys even took the front brake off.
Fastest I ever had my XR650R was up to was 90mph. It was vibrating pretty bad, but I guess thats to be expected with unbalanced knobby tires, with rim locks.

Yep, I read that one. The pics looked like something out of Junkyard Wars. :eek: I know for a fact that my KTM will do 0-60 mph in .0000000035 seconds. It's super fast, and I can grab some sick air on it. :) :moon:

I've got a GSXR-750. I'm not really sure about 0-60 times because they don't really track that at the drag strip. I can say that my 1/8 mile time was 7.4 seconds at 100.45 miles an hour and my 1/4 mile time was 11.1 at 125mph. Thats with a pretty much stock bike. The hardest thing is keeping the front wheel down in 1st and 2nd. 200mph would be no sweat aerodynamically on a bike as long as you don't poke your head above the windscreen. ;) I'm not going to tell you how I know that. They did a pretty cool comparison of a C-6 Corvette and a GSXR. One of the tests was 0-100-0 in the shortest time. Basically the bike Got up to 100 and stopped before the corvette even got to 100. If you want the ultimate road vehicle a bike is definitely the way to go!! :aj:

I ran a dragstrip for quads (in a previous life). The bored, stroked, alcohol plus nitrous burning Banshees were turning 4.2 in 300 feet. On dirt. On a good night. I think the world record is 4.11. The bikes that we had (mostly normal dirtbikes) were not nearly as fast. In the five and six second range.
Funny; the custom quads with the nitro burning four-cylinder engines were not as fast. They would shake the ground, throw dirt 100 feet or so, and make a whole boatload of noise, but generaly speaking, those darn Banshees would get to the finish first. Every once in a while, though, someone would manage to get a four-cylinder quad hooked up and going straight, and they were also in the low 4's.
And I have a Kawasaki 175 F-7 that will go a hunert' and twenty easy!!

I have a G-Tech performance meter, and Im going to try it on my bike. I just need to figure out a 12v power source and a place to mount it! Im not certain it will work though, the vibration might mess it up. My truck does the 1/4 in 18.36 @ 76mph! impressive isnt it :)

Another poster commented about the new busa's being restricted and they indeed are limited to a top speed of 186.....But there are devices that allow you to set the bike to the same settings as the 99' model.....
Some of the 250 and 500 2stroke road racing bikes are capable of 160 and 180 mph respectively..Pretty impressive for their size
