i've just got done breaking the bike in,changed oil and filter, tightened the rotor nut then went for a 40 mile trail ride the manual calls for valve adjustment [90 total mi.] but the valves sound fine i was wondering at what actual mileage does the yz/wr450 need it? they want $60 just to check them and $150 to adjust so i dont want to bring it too early. i'd appreciate any help. mountainman

mountainman.

It depends a lot on how you ride the bike. If you keep it pinned against the rev limiter all of the time then you should check them often. Otherwise you can go a lot longer between checks.

They are easy to check. Buy yourself a feeler gauge and read the manual. It will explain the proceedure very clearly.

All you have to do is remove the gas tank and the top cover on the cylinder head to check them.

On the new type four strokes the valves are more likely to close up rather than get looser. This is something you can't hear until it is too late. This can cause serious damage to your cams and valves.

Hope this helps. :thumb:
