My son just bought a 2007 RMZ250. It didn't come with a manual and we can not find out how to check the oil level. There is no sight glass and no visible screw to take out like on my YZ250. We will be ordering a service manual, but would like to service ASAP. If someone could help or refer to a site that we could order a manual in pdf form that would be great.

I never relied on the check bolt in my sons 07 RMZ, simply changed the oil and poured in the correct amount of oil.

I'd start by warming the bike up a bit and then dumping the oil, the procedure on that bike:

- Remove TDC plug from left case.
- Remove drain plug from bottom of engine case (on left side facing towards the back of the bike at about a 45 degree angle)
- Remove crank case drain plug (small allen key on left side bottom of near shift between frame rail and bottom of left case)

Let all the oil drain out, this can take a fair while, move the bike a bit to help it drain near the end.

Once bike is empty of oil there is a 12mm (If I recall correctly) plug just back of the small crank drain. This contains the scavenge screen, remove that and make sure and check for debris, if you find any you are likely looking at clutch plate issues).

Button everything back up and then fill with 900ml for an oil change 950ml if you do the filter as well and 1 liter if you do a rebuild.

If you are adamant you want to use the check bolt it is on the right side at the bottom of the clutch cover at about 7pm if you are looking at the clutch cover.

It would be in your best interest to either check the clutch or find out for sure if it has been upgraded to 08 specs, they had a big issue busting the first two fiber plates and contaminating the engine with clutch debris. Some swore the 08 update was all it took others say you need to change the basket as the root cause is too much play in the gear on the back of the stock clutch basket.

If you happen to be able to read french I'd be happy to send you a manual, we get both in Canada and when I traded the bike the dealer only took the english manual.
