Thanks for the comments!
Basically I bought it as a piece of junk, put about 1,500 in parts and powder coating in it and now it's finally done.
It's the first bike that I attempted to restore so I took the cheater way out with the powder coating. It was an ugly bike in 1982 even so I figured I'd make it colored my own way.
It's definitely not a showroom condition bike but I plan on racing some full series with it anyway so I don't really care.

Here's a pic of some of the bikes and riders you might encounter on that '82 in the MOVMX series. Pic is from the season opener at Greenwood last March. Yours will fit right in

Sweet!
It looks like the ultima class is a good sized class.
So, how does that work. Do they have novice, intermediate and expert per class in movmx?

Yes. I got to looking at this pic closer, I think it is 250 ultima expert, and maybe an post-vintage open age intermediate class. Lots of the 250 ultima experts race 125 also. Plenty of 250 ultima novice and intermediates too. Me, for now, P.V. open age expert on my '82 yz490 and occasionally I'll roll out the 78 yz100 for a little 100 action. I'm getting my 83 YZ125 put together slowly though and I'll be in there with the guys on the line. Just dropped the cylinder and new piston off for an overbore today!! Porting next....

I don't know if you have someone in mind for the porting already but I've been using Ryan from Ryno Racing for awhile for modern MX. He's based right outside of Effingham Illinois.
He charges $175 for a port and polish, does a fantastic job and has a quick turn around. If you're interested I'll give you his number.

That was the most ridiculous setup I've ever seen.
The first thing I did was rerouted all of the hoses around that crap.
To use that frame routed setup you would have to crank the steering stem down so tight that It seemed almost unridable.
Oh well, I guess that's why 83 was a much better design.

Nice resto. Now get a decent stand to show her off with. Parking it on a box is blasphemy :nener:

Very nice job! Them cross over years into water cooling will go down in the annals of history, as some of the worst handling characteristics until 4 strokes came back. Hope you dry out.
