I have a 1990 KTM 300 mx that has a broken connecting rod. The cylinder also needs to be re-sleeved due to damage done when the connecting rod broke. It appears that the connecting rod broke first, then the piston and cylinder received subsequent damage. I find it strange that the connecting rod broke first! I have seen it the other way around where the piston seized then the connecting rod broke or bent.
Is this a known problem for this engine?
Is there aftermarket parts that are more durable?
Or was this an abnormal circumstance and rebuilding with factory parts will be durable!
