My Brother has a nice kdx 250 that seems to be leaking crankcase oil and I am going to replace the necessary gaskets and was wondering while I am in there is there anything else you guys recommend replacing as a good idea? I think I found the gasket kit at DK, since this is the first time doing this just wanted to make sure I am on the right track. GASKET SET

Thanks

Your link looks like a set of seals and not the full gasket set.

If you are splitting the cases, you might want to replace the crankshaft bearings. If your seal set does not include a shift shaft seal, you might want to get one of those. The seal might get damaged when you pull the case over the shift shaft.

FWIW, the motor is based on the '88 KX250, and the '88 KX250 head gasket is thinner than the KDX250 gasket. Using the KX head gasket will give more compression and better power, yet it will still run fine on pump premium fuel.

ahhh...yes wrong link. I appreciate the input. I guess I will be replacing most every gasket since "cracking the case" is pretty invasive. I am a complete amateur at this but from what I have read and heard from others it isn't too hard, I just hope I have an old box or can to put all the "extra" parts that will be left over! ;)

Thanks

If you only have leaking gaskets, not seals and you feel the rest of the engine is OK. You can drain the oil thoroughly scrub and degrease the area then smear silastic over it. I did this to mine when I got it 18 months ago and it stayed dry the whole time. Now its apart for big bore and rod kit, 72mm bore, can't wait.
