HEllo all. I've been searching for a new bike since I outgrew my XR100R, which is getting dangerous to ride (I have a broken hand to prove it). I've been mainly looking for an XR200R, but recently I found a 1993 Yamaha WR200 for $2000 canadian ($1300 US). The bike has new plastic, rebuilt engine, new pipe for better low end, and I think that's it. It looks almost brand new. I do have a couple of things that I need help with to decide. I've never owned a two-stroke before, so how much maitenance will be involved with this bike? Also, how will the gas mileage be, I go on long rides sometimes. The bike looks heavy, does anybody know the actual weight, how will it compare to an XR200R? And lastly, how will this bike be for trails and possibly racing harescrambles? Thanks.

SpeedyM,

I bought my WR200 back in 1993 and still ride it. They were a great bike and totally competitive with KDX's. Good handling, electric power and reliable. My buddy has one, he used to race, but now just wants to go riding in his timber without a whole lot of wrenching, he loves his too.

When (if) you want a lot more power, put on a Pro-circuit pipe. Stock you will feel at home coming off your XR100.

Yamaha should have promoted the bike more, it was one of their sleepers.

My friend has a 92' WR200, and the bike has been extremely good to him considering the little amount of maintinence to it. Coming from a four stroke this bike is about the perfect transition to a two stroke. The power is very smooth, really not much hit to it, and its so far up you really have to womp on the throttle to get to the peak. I dunno if it matters but it has an electronic powervalve, which is now what honda has adapted to some of their 2002 models. It starts first or second kick for him every time, even when cold. The bike is a little chunky as far as weight is concerned, my 250 seems a bit lighter than his. For you I don't think that you'll be dissappointed, he bought his for 1600 US so your getting a good deal.
