1998 rm125 revving high through each gear to soon

I have a 1998 rm125 that I bought not to long ago and am trying to fix it up. The problem with this bike is that when you ride it, it goes through the gears to soon acting like its hitting the rev limiter even though I'm not going as fast as what I should be in the gear. I was in 5th gear and probably going only 40 MPH. any help would be great. Thanks!

Clutch slippage is a common cause of what you are describing. Start by adjusting the clutch lever free play.
