I am looking for a new ignition control module for my CR, I don't want to spend the money for a new one. I found one for a 2002 CR250. If the wiring harness plugs fit, would the box work for my bike, the numbers on the boxes don't match of course. Anyone have any experience with this issue, thanks! :)

I would stay away. The connector won't fit. If you manage to connect the right wire to the right place you might make it work but remember the 2002 has an electric powervalve with so much other electrical gizmos hanging everywhere. It has a few smaller boxes hidden behind the radiator shrouds. One looks like another coil and there is also another a small square box with wires. It's getting so crazy I wish we were still with the good ol black boxes we had in the early 1990s.

Or you could use one from 1997 to 2001.

The '97 and '98 ignition is substantially different than the '99. The'97 and '98 have a solenoid in the carb that is wired into the ignition control module. The '97 and '98 also have a regulator/rectifier and condenser that are not found on the '99.

If you want to swap a complete '97 or '98 ignition and powerjet carb onto a '99-'01, it can be done. But the ICM alone is not directly interchangeable.

Thanks for your advice guys!
After talking with a few guys, I discovered only a box from a 1999 CR250 would work, the boxes changed from 1998 then again in 2000 (a single plug out of the CDI). I found 2 used ones at salvage yards, one was $125, the other $90 with 6 month warranty, too much for a used box! My dealer said I could order a new one for $160, but I ended up ordering a new one from www.generationmx.com for $140. Pretty cool site, you pay $9.95 for a 1 year membership and they give significant discounts on OEM parts and accessories. :yeehaw:
