2 Vs 4

The 125s are very easy to work on with very little parts and they are also very cheap!!!. A bottom end is also relatively cheap compared to a thumper. If you aren’t very fast then a top end will last you ages and so will a bottom end. The 2 strokes and four strokes take about the same maintenance except its just a different kind.

Hey, I'm also considering a 125 2 stroke  . I hear you gotta replace top ends about every year or so depending on how hard you ride it. Maybe a bottom end every 4-5 top end rebuilds depending on what shape its in and how hard it was riden. Just a thought ;) .

Way back in the disco '70s, I terrorized the local woods on a CR125. At the ripe old age of 15 I learned to do top end jobs. Of course, there were no radiators then but still..... If 15 year old with a set of Craftsman wrenches and some other misc. screw drivers can do it, it can't be that hard. At the height of my high school riding, which was as often as humanly possible, I probably had to re-ring the bike twice a summer.

It ain't no big thang.

I agree. I would not avoid a motorcycle because I would need to change the piston and rings. It is no big deal.

The first one I ever rebuilt took 5 hours. The most recent was accomplished in under 40 minutes trackside. It gets easier with time.

It is also very cool to end up with a new engine for under 100.00. Go for it. Buy the bike and the manual.
