Are the 1989 yz 250 and the 1988 cr 250 both two stroke. My son and I have always road quads and i want to by him a cheap two wheeler. but i am worried about the red/green stcker here in California. Would the older bike remain green sticker after i purchase. fromm private party?

Thank you,

Both the bikes you mentioned are 2 strokes. They will both be green sticker bikes. The Red Sticker ruling only applies to 2003 Model Year and Newer. So 2002 and older are exempt from the Red Sticker Regulations and will be issued a Green Sticker regardless of the model. It doesnt matter whether you buy the bike from a dealer or a private party, when you go to the DMV to register the bike for off road use they will use the VIN # and model year to determine which bikes are Red and Green Sticker.

Here is a link for more info on the Laws and Regs for California SVRA's: http://ohv.parks.ca.gov/default.asp?page_id=1234
