"2000 yz250...good bike?"
A great bike Mike! look at the air box condition...inside. Dirty...pour maintaince. Offer to change the oil, lets you see first hand the trimings, look at what is caked inside the drain plug. Check plastic, shows impact status. Get it warm, ride it hard. Offer him $500 less, if he takes it something is really wrong, or he does not know what he's got. Good luck

I bought a '00 YZ250 new, and have had no abnormal problems with it. Normal problems, yes, but they are to be expected.

1) Jetted way too rich from the factory. Big deal.
2) The likage and steeering head were a tad shy on grease. Normal.
3) Recall on the throttle pully. No charge to replace.

If the guy selling the 2000 YZ 250 is worth a darn, these things will already have been addressed. I would still check them though. The bike ahs been realiable as any other I have had. Starts nicely, hot or cold, smooth power all the way through the band. User friendly suspension adjustments. The factory grips are even pretty decent. Clutch pull is super easy (compared to my '90 YZ250). I think you would enjoy this bike.

96whyzee makes good points on determining the care the bike has been given.

Good Luck

I bought a 2000 YZ 250 last 08/01. The guy had 6 rides on it and broke his foot. Gave him $3300: his payoff at the bank. I came off a kdx 200. I love the low end torque and extra grunt. So far I've added FMF SST pipe/turbine core II silencer, 11oz flywheel weight and Boyesen carbon reeds. The power is smooth for a moto bike and I ride about 70/30 trail/track. So far I've only replaced the renthal handlebars (flimsy:broke on first good hard crash...But then so did my shoulder, two ribs and a lung!!!!) and back fender.

So far no real probs...but I'd follow the reply about extra greese on swingarm/head and the throttle thing: The last thing I remember was being full throttle and pinned to the back of the bike before I attempted the Super Man miss the seat grab move!!

Good Luck!!!

Dennis

P.S. How do you ride? Track, trails, skill level, etc. ? That would make a big difference on the choice. If you mainly ride trails, I'd give KTM 250 E/Mxc a look. They're all set up for trails and have come a long way in the past 3 years re. reliability, handling, etc.

Ive got a 2000 YZ250 for sale. Not because I don't like it. I love it. Great bike. I just needed the contingency money.

I do not know if the 125 is included but more than likely it is. My dealer told me the same thing. It took them a couple of days to get the letter from Yamaha. Anyway the shop took care of the call and ordering the part. BTW the replacement part looks the same except for a deeper groove.
