I just bought a 2003 CR250R new. Was wondering if anyone had any general advice with this bike? I had a KDX220 and decided to move up. I know this bike has problems with its airbox and am trying to decide which mod kit to buy to fix it. Any advice on this or any other problems would be greatly appreciated. Thanx

I couldn't jet it correctly with the Moto Tasanarri V-Force, I would stick with the stock reed cage (don't know about Boyesen). I used the seal kit (not the Bonz, the 'regular' one - I think it's called Pro Seal - I used everything except the red ring that goes on the outside. I stuck with the stock ring there after I put in the neoprene seal because with the thick red ring the screws vibrated out. Also, the FMF SST pipe really makes your bike faster - more explosive when it hits the power, but still no low end or crisp throttle response.

I just ordered a MXBonz air box kit for my 2002 CR250. I heard/read here that this $60 kit is one of the better ones. I also ordered their inline cooling system. Being that our muddy/slick trails can get very hot & humid here in Hawaii, I have overheated my bike before (know what a tea kettle sounds like?).

I also read that the FMF Fatty produces better overall power from a lower RPM range. I'm not sure about the Pro Circuit though, which I've always liked.

You gotta rejet the bike too. The low to mid gurgly response seems to be a problem on these bikes. I've read threads here for hours on rejetting '02-up CR250. The Mikuni carb seems to be more of a hassle than the Keihin PWK. I might just swap over to a Keihin. Some of the other members have already done it and are very happy with the results (except for one guy I think).

I have an 03 CR250. Concerning the airbox, I have found that the pro seal kit is of very poor quality. What I did was remove the stock foam gasket between the airbox and air boot, filled the indentation with silicone sealer and reassembled the airbox with no gaskets at all. I have never gotten anything in my airbox with this setup. I would suggest a 49 or 50 tooth rear sprocket to help the bike transition into the midrange quicker. Jetting the bike crisp is essential, and once jetted correctly the bike will run as good as any 250 I've ridden. The bike responds well to agressive ridding and responds great to clutch use, which may be more nessasary than some 250's. A procuircut pipe helps the low end and makes the bike rev faster, but isn't magical by any means.

I used the PC Airbox fix on my bike and it has been installed for 2 years with no problems. There may be a better one out there, but this one works. The carb is finicky, I put the Keihin on my bike and love it. I have tried both the V-Force and the Boyeson Rad Valve. I personally like the Rad Valve better. As far as pipes go, I tried the fatty and now have the SST. I think it will just depend on what kind of riding you do. I hear the Factory Fatty is the way to go in most cases. I run the 49 tooth rear on my bike and like it. Its a great bike. I have had zero problems with mine.
