I shift my bike to third gear and it shifts back down to second on its own. Has anyone had this problem? The clutch doesn't slip and the bike runs strong.
there's not enough stress on the forks or the drum to wear them significantly unless maybe the oil got super bad and was run a long time with it.
the part I'm talking about grinding on is not the outer gear teeth, but the side cogs that connect one gear to another. You can even grind them to mate at an angle so it is impossible for them to slip apart once engaged.
It's pretty common to bend a shifting fork and get incomplete engagement of the dogs on the sides of the gears which would cause the popping out of gear issue described above. Regardless, until the case is split and the transmission examined it's all just speculation on our part.
