I have been researching and reading several different forums which recommend running a 2008 carb on the older year motors. The 2008 uses a 40mm Keihin flat-slide while the 2007 uses a Keihin 40.0mm flat-slide with throttle position sensor (TPS). I also noticed the CDI on the 2007 has an electronic advice and the 2008 does not. On another note, I got a price quote from service Honda to get a 2007 or new CRF250R and the recommended the 2008 carb. I guess what I am asking is will the 2008 carb work with the 2007 CDI or will I need to get the 2008 CDI.

Thanks

Not sure of the compatibility of the two carbs. Just curious, what is the purpose? Is something wrong with yours? I was thinking that the 06-08 carbs were the same, and the 04-05 are the same. Same goes for the exhaust systems. Looking at the microfische from Service Honda, all of the carbs utilize the same TPS from 04-08, part #16060-KRN-671. The only talk I ever heard on switching carbs was to run a 05 carb on the 06 bikes due to tuning issues with the increased size of the 06 (if I remember correctly they went from 37mm in 04-05 to 40mm on the 06-08 bikes). I think now this has been remedied on the newer bikes. If you are having issues with your current carb, it could just be jetting. I would try to repair/retune what you have before dropping $400 over what could possibly be a $5 jetting issue or possibly a jet kit fix.

Just jet your bike, set the ap timing, and it will probly run fine. I run a JD needle and 70 leak jet. Never bogs. Runs crisp and smooth. Likes main jet tuning for temp and humitity changes. It's a bit tempermental, but runs good when properly tuned.

I will give everyone inputs a shot when I get it put together. Is the JD needle only one size?

I did a little more research and this is what I got off the microfiche for the 2008 and 2007 CRF250R's:

2007 Honda CRF250R Carb
CARBURETOR ASSY. (FCR01D A) 16100-KRN-A02 $538.40
2008 Honda CRF250R Carb
CARBURETOR ASSY. (FCR01E A) 16100-KRN-A12 $598.35

The part numbers are a little differnet that is why I originally asked. I would rather not spend teh extra money. I still need to pay for fuel...

I'm not sure, but I think the AP actuator has been slightly changed over the years, as well as the jetting. The carb body should be the same since 06.

Joe,
You could be right. I did get another email for Service Honda. The 2005 CRF250R Carb is a 37mm like bwood said. I also went a head and got the JD jet kit. I noticed it comes with 4 different needles. Any suggestion on jetting, needle selection.

Thanks

My JD kit only had 2 needles. Red and blue for warm and cold temps. Had about 5 main jets and 2 o-rings. The kit comes with a good guide to get it set up correctly. If you have any questions you can call and talk to them.
