Here's my daughter at three, the training wheels came off after the first week. At this stage she hadn't even rode a tricycle before. Now she's 9 and riding a 100 and my nearly 3 year old son is begging to ride the 50... :bang:
By the way, these little Honda CRF50's are bullet proof. You can expect to pay about $1,000.00 out the door and they're in demand in the resale market if you need to bail out. Personally I would stay away from the $400.00 dollar Chinese copies.
Be sure and get her a good pair of boots and a full coverage helmet to keep her pretty little teeth. Kaylee is riding with elbow pads and front, back and shoulder protection as well.
A 50 is great for them to start on. When my daughter started she felt "safe" on that little bike. The are not far off the ground, nore have a tendancy to rip out from under them...but stil giv'er. As for brand ...your choice. Any "branded" bike has good resale in comparison to Chinese. Also be prepared for expensive mods or a new bike in the very near future...
My 11 year old daughter and I have ridden the trails out of town here for the last 3 years, atc and mx and have had the best time. Its great watching her attempt new things on each progressive trip. I think I cried a little on a beautiful fall day watching her 2-wheel drift around a corner for the first time! Its great fun, and now my boy is old/strong enough to really try and RIDE! I encourage them to ride smart, defensive, and technical.
Matt congrats on her wanting to ride and you providing her the chance. I really wish I had listened to my son when he begged to get a bike at 5 or 6.
Just to make life easier before you buy the bike be sure to check out rules in your area. The crf50 may not be a legal race bike in your area for her age group. I know it is not here in Wisconsin in the PWjr's. Hate to see her fall in love with the bike and then find out you have to get a different one (of course they also make great pitbikes for dads)
