I received a bike recently from my step dad. He had it in storage and it did not start at first. I realized it was not getting gas and found the gas valve to be clogged. Once I cleaned it out the bike fired up after about 20 kicks. It is running OK now, but stumbles upon hard acceleration and does not reach high rpms without sputtering and skipping. I am not sure what is causing this but hoped some fresh oil, fuel, and plugs would help. I would like to be able to find information on this bike such as spark plug gap, oil specs, etc. My problem is I'm not exactly sure what it is. My best guess is a '73 Yamaha DT3. I found this serial on the frame and engine - DT1F-136546. I want to buy a manual to find the specs for this bike or something I just would like to make sure it is the right manual first. I am a DIY car mechanic, but bikes are new for me. Any help would be appreciated....

The 'DT' series books should work. I'm not sure what the differences are betwwen the DT1, DT2 or DT3? :bang: I thought it was engine size, but ?????

A bike that has been sitting, and stumbles on excelleration, sounds like the pilot jet is plugged. Drop the bowl, remove the float pin and float and needle, and you will see a recessed hole along the main jet tower. look in it, you will see a screw driver slotted jet. Most likely plugged. Check the big main also. :ride:

Usually easier to just replace them. easily available from local bike shops.
