78 yz250 Spark issue

78 yz250

Friend of mine gave me this bike, needs work.

When I did get it, it started and ran I rode it around. Came inside to get a sweater, bike wouldnt start. No Spark

I grabbed my multimeter

Stator has resistance values, Volts was low Im thinking about 1.5-3max anyone know what V is suppose to be when its being kicked over
No Broken wires
IGN Coil has resistance values
Killswitch is working,

CDI box there is no way of testing, what voltage do they need to activate.

Earlier I was getting a very weak spark, when I kicked it over a couple more times it disappeared
I pulled the stator cover off and its pretty rusty in there.

Does anyone have specs for the ignition system?

check the spark throw the plug to see if it looks weak I have had the same problem with an off brand suzuki and i had to replace the coil

First, did u try a using a known good spark plug?
Next, do u have a service manual for the bike? More specifically a wiring diagram.

Being a mechanic by trade, first thing I did was use a new spark plug.
So today I got curious cause I wasnt geting a jolt of power when I would kick it over. Stator was all rusted, sanded it off then got the nice jolt.

The bike sparked, weak for about 5 kicks then stopped again.
I have output from the CDI so Im really thinking its the coil.

I wish I had a service manual for this bike, ohh well its fun thinkin about this while drinkin a cold beer :)
