I was scanning the parts diagram on my front brake and there is a part called "Brake-Pad" but it isn't the actual brake pad. It looks like it sits on the open end of the piston where the small brake pad contacts the piston. Does anyone know what that is, I don't have one and my brakes work??? I referenced bikebandit for the name.

Thanks

Many Kawasakis use a puck that sits inside the piston & is intended to insulate the piston from the hot pad so as not to overheat the fluid. No-one else really seems to subscribe to this theory so you can ignore it.

Not sure about your model, can’t even remember if my 91 had one (using a different calliper).

My bike had such 'pads'. For insulation of some sort, either heat or vibration.

One of mine bit it about pad change 3. Maybe it got too hot?? ;)

Anyway, haven't noticed any deleterious effect from running only one pad.

I need to post a thread about my bike pulling hard to the right every time I hit the rear brakes..............

Just kidding.
