87 kdx200 - problem with gear changing

i have an 87 kdx200. when the bike is running you cannot switch into neutral while holding the clutch, and it just doesn't seem to change gears well at all. it used to seem fine but now... i have been messing with the clutch cable adjustments. could it be as simple as readjusting the clutch cable or am i looking at something internal.

Try changing the oil in the gearbox , use a good synthetic and check that the cable has the right amount of play at the lever .

Check your clutch basket for grooves in the outer basket.
The fiber clutch plates get caught in these groves under load.

yea its old it probably has (chatter marks)in the clutch basket
you can file the basket down flat again ,it takes time but it works and saves money
i have done this to most of my bikes and have no problems
this was also a trail tech tip from dirt rider magazene in ??april 93
its been a long time ago lol any way

i put a new clutch cable, and new gear saver oil in. i did take the clutch out and everything looked perfect. i havent ran it since i did all this, i just did it earlier today.
