I am looking to get a larger tank for my 1997 kx250 and I saw the IMS 3.0 gallon tank. On IMS's website it says that the stock radiator shrouds must be modified. Does anyone know what that means? Does anyone have this tank? How about a picture? IMS doesn't have a picture of that specific tank. Thanks in advance.

My buddy had a 3.0 for his KX. It did not fit very well. The petcock area leaked. The shrouds may need to be cut down or the holes may need to be redrilled. Needless to say, we mounted it once and then sold it!

I've had IMS tanks, Acerbis tanks, and Clarke tanks. IMS is a strong tank, (pretty thick plastic) but with their fairly high price and the way they only use one tank mount (at cylinder area) I just wasn't happy with all the pressure it put on the shrouds, (they use shrouds to eliminate wobble). Acerbis makes a good tank...and those Italians are very proud of their plastic!!! (pricey). I go with Clarke now. Have heard it said that their plastic is thinner, but I've had no trouble. Had an older KX with a Clarke that carried gas in the shrouds, hit a tree once (a hard hit) that bent the shroud back to the seat! No leaks, no white lines!...good as new. And they use 2 mounts, very solid. And Clarke is about $50 cheaper.

I have a 3.1 IMS in white on a CR 250. Tank fits well with no leaks but turned yellow. Emailed and called IMS with no call backs or answers about if anything could done to clean or stop the yellowing. I guess they made thier money already. I would buy a Clarke and stay away from natural or white.
