A few questions about cylinder plating

I have a 99 CR250. The cylinder is worn and this is my first bike with a plated cylinder. I do not race, just a recreational rider, so I want to fix it the cheapest way possible, but I want it to be correct. What should I have done to my cylinder? Is it as simple as boring and re-coating, or sleeving and re-coating? I assume to put a sleeve in, it would still have to be bored to take the sleeve. I am a real dummy when it comes to these new cyliders. Thanks for any help that you can offer.
