The exhaust seals/o rings on my '03 yz250 w/ PC Works pipe have gone bad. Local dealer wants $6.00 a piece ( need 2 ). FMF offers a kit with seals and springs for around $10 from online vendors. My question is has anyone used anything other than these 2 options. Would any type o ring work if it can handle the heat? More out of curiousness than being cheap.....we all know you can't do much on a bike for anyhting less than 20 bucks.

Well, I have used several things. First off, I have used the FMF and they work great.
Any o-ring will work if it is the correct size and has the correct heat durability. I have done this and had no problems. I did that, though, because I was waiting for some other aftermarket ones and I am impatient.
Just make sure that they are the correct size if you choose to do so.
I would check on www.Denniskirk.com or another similar site to see all the possibilities and compare prices

Not sure about the heat ratings, but hardware stores generally have a large selection of o-rings available for cheap.

I buy mine for about $1.50 for a pair at an auto supply store. They are specifically for exhaust purposes so are duable and heat resistant.
If they don't have them on display just take one of your old ones in and have them match it up.
Buy a bunch and feel good.

I feel much better........ so far these boards have saved me a bunch of money. One day maybe a will share the saving by buying a round of adult beverages.
