I just wanted tell everyone who has small kids or has ones that visit frequently to use a solid stand or strap it to the wall. A simple eyebolt in a stud with a strap could of prevented last nights accident.

My sister and her family went to her inlaws for a Christmas party and everything went great. After the party they headed out the garage to load the car. Well everyone with kids or has watched them know they can be a handfull and hard to keep track of. As soon as they hit the garage my youngest nephew (22months) saw the dirt bike leaning against the wall. NO one else even noticed it. Anyways he grabbed the handlebars and tried to climb on it pulling it on top of him. The 200lbs+ bike landed on him shattered his leg. I didnt get to talk to my sister yet but looks like it's broke in several places. Thankfully that was the only major injury he recieved. They kept him overnight and didnt do a thing to the leg except prevent it from moving. The specialist is coming in this morning to check it out and perform surgery if needed. This guy is good, did both my knees so i'm happy he was available.

I keep my bikes in a storage room where they cant get to them. So if you keep your bike out in the open where young children can get to them, please tie it down some how. This was preventable, but like most things, til you read about it you dont think about it.

A nice side note is that the hospital gives the parents a security code. NO ONE without the code is allowed in the room or even to recieve information about him via phone or in person. I thought that was a nice security move the hospital implemented. They didnt have that type of policy that i knew of before the Sept. 11 incident.

Hope everyone has a Happy and Healthy Holiday! I know our family is alittle bit more thankful!

Hope your nephew recovers quickly. Toddlers ought to be Olympic sprinters and gymnists because they can flat move. Good advice for those with little folks.

I have always found that putting a stout eyebolt in the wall and tying the kid to it works wonders!

Just kidding! Hope your nephew pulls out. Those little buggers are resilient, though, and he'll probably go through several casts wearing them out!

Keep us updated.:)

Thanks Guys! Everyone's home from the hospital now. He didnt have to have surgery but got a nice full lenght leg cast. Poor guy doesnt even want to look at it and has it covered with a blanket. Also wont let anyone else see it. He's quite the character. :) It sure will be funny watching him try and walk!

Put some dirt bike stickers on the cast when he's sleeping.:)

Guess you could say he's had his first dirt bike crash? Speedy recovery.:)

at the track, i use one of those foot-lift stands. in the garage, i use a solid center stand to prevent (hopefully) just such an occurence. i hope he recovers quickly.

Hope he heals quickly, sounds like he should thankfully.
The other idea is not to have kids around, but have to admit one of the cats jumped on my bike & knocked it over (no damage to the bike or cat, but the plastic bins nearby weren't so lucky - this cat is dangerous, he's dropped a speaker on his tail & ripped that open so you'd think he'd learn - maybe kids are smarter than cats ;))

Did they give your nephew a boring white cast or a colour one? Sounds like we should all send him a sticker to cover it up ;)

after a thing like that, a kid could either be scared to death of dirtbikes or grow up to be awesome at it. that sounds like one of those weird stories that you might hear some pro talking about how he got into riding, maybe it's a sign.

How many other 2 year olds can brag to their friends that he broke his leg on a dirtbike! He's the man!
