I cant believe this 2001 KX100 has a 420 chain on it. Even a TTR125 has a 428 and mine has a 428H on it. Has anyone changed over to a 428 or a 520, if so head me in the right direction with part numbers if possible.

I do know that a lot have people have gone to the 428 chain. I plan to do the same to my wifes bike. The funny thing is that the original owner of the kx100 that i bought for her had switched it over to a 428 chain. The kid that bought it from him had it changed back to a 420! (we are the third owners)

Probably some one at the kawi shop told him that he had the wrong equipment on the bike.

Anyway - back to the 428 we will go.

Sprocket Specialist, Swinder, and/or Rebel Gears can set you up with the 428 chain & sprockets for it.

Can't believe it comes with a 420 chain. Was under the impression that all 85 cames stock with 428's.

We just changed out the stock chain and gears on my son's '02 KX85 to 428 gears and a 428 O-ring chain. He races D-17 Hare Scrambles. Talk about lower maintenance! I'd highly recommend same for a KX100.

We tried the o-ring 428 - too much drag on the small engine. A good 428 racing chain lasts pretty good.

Renthal makes a good conversion kit.

This is an excellent mod but you'll need to file out the chain guide a bit so the wider chain doesn't rub.
