my gf's kx100 (bought used) came with a 428 chain and 13-50 sprockets. naturally i didn't notice this until i ordered a 420 12t sprocket for our trip to idaho next week. it appears that the 428 conversion is a special thing renthal makes. is that correct? it's not just parts from another model that fit?

it didn't appear that i could get a 12t sprocket in the 428 size for the kx100, at least i couldn't find one after looking for 12 minutes (lol), so i just ordered another rear sprocket and a chain from rocky mountain in the 420 size. hopefull that'll bolt right on and there aren't any irreversible mods done to fit the 428.

i just converted my sprockets and chain from a 420 to a 428, great mod. Yes, Renthal does make the conversion kit for it. i do not believe that there are 428 sprockets from a different model that will bolt right on. I actually ordered JT sprockets from dennis kirk in the 428 size, they are steel and run about 9 bucks for the front and 20 for the rear. Just have to keep on top of chain maintinence because the sprockets wont wear along with the chain. If you want aluminum i would go with renthal and i think Sprocket Specialists can hook you up with a set of 428 sprockets also. Hope this Helps.
