As part of the exclusoive content for Support Team members we are working on an Ask the Experts series of interviews. Personally I've always been left wanting more even when a good interview is printed in mags. The interviews are never in-depth enough and are always edited to death. We knew we needed a better way to do this, so instead of having printed inteviews we will do the interviews on tape and post them as MP3s so you'll be able to hear in-depth discussions from the people being interviewed without a bunch of BS editing done like they do in the mags. No holds barred info from people in the know that you won't normally have access to.

Initially we have lined up the following industry insider Experts to Interview:

Dr. Dave Redzus of Precision Research will talk to us about fuel related topics, oils, data acquisition, and using software to help simulate various engine and chassis designs and functions.

Mike Perry of Kibblewhite will talk with us about a host of four-stroke related topics including valves, springs, cam dynamics, strengths and weaknesses of current designs, among other things.

I'll interview Eric Gorr and we'll go into a whole host of subjects.

These are the folks we have already confirmed, but we have been in contact with a lot of other people who we hope to get on board as well in the near future.

This is the part where the STMs need to speak up. Tell us what you want to know from the folks listed above and tell us who you'd like to here from and what you want to know from them.

Just a couple of things to keep in mind. We won't be interviewing riders. No offense to them but they get interviewed everywhere else so they don't fit into the sprit of the series, and we won't be asking questions like, what jetting should I use with X .

We'll gather up the best questions from the STMs and from our pea-brains and see what we can come up with.

Now's the time to join in. :thumb:

Everyone can post a question here if they want. If you leave it to ME to ask all the questions these things could get pretty weird :)

Rich- i would be interested to hear from Eric about how his (and your relationship) with many of the dirtbike press bigwigs became so sour, but i wouldnt want that to be asked if it would cause offense! :)

also, of course i would be interested on his opinion on where the 2 stroke will be in 5 years time.

are you looking for suggestions on other people to interview- Wes Gilbert and Boyesen, Jeremey WIlkey come to mind.......and if you want an interview with Jody, just let me know and i will have a word on saturday!!!

Excellent idea.

I had them in mind as well, I just wanted to talk to Wes at Indy to make sure he was up for it. Jeremy was always on the list because he's a fascinating guy to talk to, and loves to share information. He just got back from Spain where he was visiting Tony Foale so he should have even more interesting thoughts to share. My hope is to get Jeremy and Tony Foale together in the same room (or at least on the same call) and talk to them together.

The funny thing is I think an interview where Jody could be totally honest would be fascinating. He's been around a long time and seen a lot of things change, so I'm sure he has some interesting insights. I fear that won't happen anytime soon though. The politics of publishing a bigtime print mag will likely see to that. :|

I'm looking forward to this. I'd like to hear more on why some of these guys got into the dirtbike business. The post that you wrote about Eric was very interesting and I'd like to see similar articles of other industry leaders.

Of course we all really want to know if anyone knows how fast a CR80 is??

Great idea!

Here's one for Mike Perry:

Honda's Unicam design - marketing hype? Product differentiator for the sake of it? Or is it really a worthy idea versus buckets and shims?

I can answer that in part. Using a finger follower (rocker) actuated by a large roller allows for more aggressive valve opening rates, which tends to improve performance. Rockers tend to take up more space than buckets so my guess would be that the sohc design was a compromise that came as a result of space considerations. I'm just sort of surprised that they didn't use a similar opening mechanism for the intake. Again probably a compromise between cost, space, and need.

That's an excellent question and I'll present it to Mike.

We are also going to try add the following folks to our list of experts:

- Sean Hilbert and Phil McDowell of REV!/Cobra to discuss the changes in store for Cobra as well as the future of two-strokes, direct fuel injection, the progress with REV! and more.

- Dave "Doc" Montgomery of Bombardier to discuss direct fuel injected two-strokes, the future of two strokes and more.

- Bill "SFO" Berndt who was Crew Chief for Doug Henry's SuperMoto effort to discuss SuperMoto bike setup and prep as well as giving us a behind the scenes look at a day in the life of a semi-factory team.

- Bob Murray of Thunder Alley exhausts to discuss four-stroke pipe design, along with what's wrong with the most aftermarket exhaust systems.

We'll be adding more in the near future. Stay Tuned. :thumb:

can you ask the pipe makers why they arent making quieter 4stroke pipes- i was on the second gate behind a bunch of F's and even with my helmet on, my ears were hurting bad. it cant be good for the sport how these bikes are so loud.
