Anyone ever have one of those days, without really knowing why? Let me set the stage: It's a beautiful, cloudless, 70 degree day here in the KC area. I'm going riding with Thunder 33 and Blue Thunder (that's a lot of thunder!). BT is gonna borrow whichever bike I am not on at the time since his shock is being re-done at the present time. Last night I was up fairly late (for me, anyway) watching the Vegas SX. Today I just didn't feel quite right. Everyone shows up, we get my two bikes loaded and head out to one of the more Supercross-styled local tracks. Quick stop at the bank for a ten-spot to get in. Construction truck blocking one entrance to the ATM. Go back out onto the highway and come in from the other side. ATM tells me "Temporarily unable to dispense cash". Great. Gotta bum the money to get in. So we are headed East on a two-lane highway when this 70 something Ford Fairlane pulls in front of us, belching a cloud of blue smoke and topping out around 40 MPH. I get a long stretch of "dotted yellow line" to make a pass and I pull out and give the Chebby about half throttle. Next thing I see is a full-sized Ford pickup pulling onto the highway heading West. That's right, a head-on is imminent. I grabbed all the brake I could and nervously watched both my bikes pitching violently in the rearview mirror. The guy in the pickup saw me and stopped, then backed up. It was too close for me. I pulled into the next drive, adjusted the bikes, and then announced that I was going home. I was still shaking from the near miss. Not sure what was going on today, things just didn't feel right. Hard to explain, but there was an intangible something that just wasn't right today. Jason decided to jump in and go ahead with Jamie, and I went home, unloaded and then mowed the yard and took a nap. I figure there will be other days. Today just wasn't the one. I'm not a sperstitious person. Far from it. It just felt like one of those days where everything was working against me, and I figure that a supercross track was not the place to be today. Anyone else ever have one of these "attacks"?

Yeah, I had one of these attacks a few years ago. It ended with a broken navicular that took 1+ years to heal.

You made the right move, Lou.

It's cliché, but it's true. "Better safe than sorry".

At least you turned around and went home. Some people (like yours truly) don't have enough sense to know when to quit.

Big Lou - Bad Juju/Bad Karma = Just Bad. I'm glad you didn't ride. Who knows how to explain those 6th sense kinds of things but whenever I go against those feelings, I tend to not be myself anyway just waiting for the bad stuff to happen, so why not just wait. Again, you did the right thing.

On the lighter side Lou, remember the times your mom told you to wear clean underwear in case you were in an accident? The problem with that statement is first you say #$%! then you do it! Glad everything turned out my friend.

Well, thanks everyone. I think i tmay have been sleep deprivation or something. A nice nap and some chocolate ice cream (the world's most perfect food) and I'm a little better. I just enjoyed hanging out and doing nothing on this beautiful day today. :)

Lou,
Two months ago I wish I had of "listened" to that feeling, but I went riding anyway. Never did feel 100% and I started riding harder as the day progressed. I ended up taking on two pines and an oak, needless to say I didn't come out on top. I still feel the effects of that crash in both confidence and pain.
You did the right thing my friend. :)

Okay, every time I roll my oversized butt out of bed, I am going against badd ju ju!!! Yeah, I should probably go back home but the love of the sport is too strong.

By the way Lou, while you were at home mowing the yard and being a pit sally, I was mastering the doubles out there (thanks Jason) and eating your sammich! Man that was a damn good sammich too! I think you over-reacted. I was right behind you slamming my brakes to the floor too. I was shaken up but still no reason to high and dry my buds on a great riding day.

Oh well.

That describes me pretty well...except for the oversized part. :D I swear, I have the worst luck of anyone I know.

BTW...Lou has always been a sissy, hasn't he!? :p j/k I wish I was smart enough to know when to quit. :silly:
