Hey fellas,

Im new here and i am looking into buying my first bike. I basically never rode one before , (80cc automatic) I dont know what to get, 2 stroke or 4 stroke, yamaha, kawasaki, honda, ktm????

I want to get into jumping stuff so i was thinking of a motocross style. I dont know if it matters but im 25, 5'10" 200lbs. Would a 125 2 stroke be a good beginner? Or should i be looking at a 250?

Thanks

a 125 is supposedly harder for a beginer to handle due to the fact that the power is in its upper RPMs...You would have no problem on a 250 also.

Although 4strokes are currently popular with beginers and other riders, 2stroke riders have more fun!! ;)

As for brand - you cant go wrong with any...Read others posts about what to look for when buying a used/new bike

Good Luck

OK thanks Ruff Rider,

Going on the websites for these bikes it doesnt seem to cost to much more for a 250 than a 125. I just dont want to end up buying a 125 and say that i wish i would of got a 250 a month later, but then again i dont want to kill myself.

More comments/opinions welcome.

thanks

You are a big enough person for a 250 two stroke. I late nineties model can probably be had for around $2000. You could probably get one that is that only a year or two old for around $4000. If you give us more info on what type of riding you want to do it would help us give you better advice.

I would for sure go with a 250, I am basically the same size as you and I have ridden both. The 125 is a really finkicky little *censored*, the 250 is alot more managable, in my mind. I have a 93 Honda CR250 and I love it. Personally I didn't like the 125 that much, probably because I don't like to wring it out all the time. Oh, and if you plan on jumping, you may need to look into stiffer springs. Just my humble opinion. Good luck!
