I looked at a new 02 CR250 today and am considering converting one for enduros. I am considering an IMS or Clarke enduro (3 gallon) gas tank. There doesn't seem to be much room in and around that aluminum frame.
My questions:
1) Where do they put the extra volume?
2) How does the larger tank compare to the stock tank?
3) How does the larger tank hinder maintenance? Can you change the spark plug? Can you get to the carb?
I have the Clarke 3.0 for my '01 CR250 and I am very happy with it.
1) Between the frame and the radiator shrouds, in front of the seat, the bottom of the tank.
2) Fits very nice with stock mounts and petcock. The only difference I noticed is the stock tank is flat black and the Clarke is glossy black and the Clarke gas cap is bigger.
3) I can't say that is does. Yes, but it does take a little extra work. Yes, same as stock.
