Well, we routinely roast Sutherners, Texans, Okies, Canadians, etc, etc, etc, what makes natives special? It certainly wasn't a disrespectful post.

KW - No disrespect intended towards Native Americans. I have nothing but respect for Native Americans thus the reason why I do use the PC term for indian.

Native Americans lived off the land. Many of the natural ingredients that were a regular part of their diet produce feelings of euphoria and mild hallucinations when taken in large doses. Tribal members sometimes used these natural ingredients to visit a higher spiritual plain and cleanse their spirit. It's roughly the same as a Catholic confessing his/her sins to a priest.

Tribal elders often tell stories which are passed down from generation to generation. Some stories tell the history of the tribe, some tell of great wars or hardship and some are simply campfire stories. I tend to believe that Bigfoot and the Thunderbird are campfire stories that have been misinterpreted by settlers and missionaries.

Either that or Bigfoot and T-bird (as he likes to be called) are hanging out in the woods with that psychopathic killer that has a meat hook for a hand and escaped from the mental prison. Now that dude scared me... when I was 11.

<DIV>No harm taken Woodsrider,</DIV>
<DIV>There are just a few tribes in the south west that are known to dabble in&nbsp;mind bending&nbsp;plants</DIV>
<DIV>Others endured the Sun Dance and other forms of self sacrifice like fasting and sleep deprivation.</DIV>
<DIV>There are legends and stories that are part of all original peoples history, that&nbsp;was the point I was trying to make.</DIV>
<DIV>Werewolves probably came from someone getting bitten by a rabid wolf and the story grew around campfires.</DIV>
<DIV>There is little scientific proof&nbsp;for any of these stories, but there just may be some truth in them.</DIV>
<DIV>I try to remain an open minded skeptic, whether it is Aliens, Noah's Ark or Sasquatch. </DIV>
<DIV>Just because I never seen either, doesn't mean they are just tall tales. </DIV>

<DIV>edit-not sure why this is is all coded up??</DIV></DIV></DIV>

The phoenix and thunderbird are both mighty myths symbolized by the form of a bird. The phoenix originates from ancient Egypt, and is such a strong symbol, that it exists as a symbol representing long life in today’s modern world. Only one of these mighty birds was believed to be able to exist at one time, with a life span of hundreds of years, and went hand in hand with the worship of the sun. As a great bird that ascended from the sun, and would return the same way, they were believed to bring with them eternal life. The thunderbird grew as a myth out of the Native American culture. A Great Spirit in bird form believed to bring many of lives necessities to those on earth, including water, by being a carrier of storms, bringing forth rain, lightening, and thunder.

When I was a kid my sister (several years older) wanted to go and see the movie "Boggy Creek".&nbsp; My parents didn't know much about it, but she sold them on it claiming it was a documentary on bears.&nbsp; So Mom and Dad packed up all three of us and we headed off to the theater.&nbsp; Needless to say it didn't take too long for all of us to figure out that my sister was full of CRAP!!&nbsp; Since my dad is a stubborn man and was into the movie we stayed.&nbsp; I spent the majority of the film hunkered down in my seat or visiting the rest room.&nbsp; For a long time after that when I would lay down to go to sleep, I'd hear my heartbeat in my ear on the pillow and swear to God it was bigfoot walking towards me!&nbsp; There isn't too much in the woods that I'm worried about (too much time in the infantry I guess) but anytime anyone mentions bigfoot, I get goose bumps.&nbsp; Someday I'm going to get back at my sister for that....

:) Wouldn't it be ironic, if she ran into Sasquach, considering she is out in B.C. now? :) That movie gave me the heebie jeebies at the time and I was right next to Moose doing the same thing. To think I could sit through "Jaws" and still not be afraid of swiming in the open ocean but after seeing that flik it was about 4-5 years before I could stop coming out of the woods around dusk like a screaming school girl(insert picture of Elk and a spider here).
