OK not a BF story, although I do think they exist...
My father is about as straight laced as they come, he is not the type to make up BS stories and is definately not a Sci-Fi nut like his son. As a matter of fact he turned off Men in Black after about 5 minutes because "it was stupid".
He (and I) are from Western Iowa, near the Missouri river. If you've every been the area is hilly with streches of thick old forests. When he was a young fella (late teens) in the 50's he, my grandfather and the farm hand "Bullets" were working pasture fence on the "hunnert" (as my grandad called it, one of our family acerages). As the three of them headed to the truck at dusk, a black object ringed with lights approached from the wooded area near our property, hovered over the pasture and glided silently about 50 feet off the ground as my dad and the others watched. The craft glided out over my dad and then shot off silently and disappered.
Now again, my dad has told me this story twice, (once when he was in the hospital following a heart attack). The man has never even seen Star Wars. So personally I'm prone to believe him.
Now as for me, I'm a self professed Sci-fi nut and I know people see what they want to see. I was traveling across rural New Mexico and while my ex was reading I noticed a polished copper colored object hovering high in the sky. A glint caught my eye and I watched it hover as I drove at 75 mph accross the desert. I nudged my ex and she noticed it too. We watched it for at least 5 minutes until I pulled over. We got out and watched for about three minutes then it left, boom, gone. A con trail appeared about 55degrees to the west about 30 seconds later but there were no planes in the area.
What was it? don't know. Probably a military aircraft (this was about the time the "stealth" was being made public) still kinda freaks me out thinking about it. Hope we're not alone!
