I've got a '00 Beta Rev3 200cc. I've had it for a month now, and I'm really enjoying it. Its sooo much nicer than the old '94 Techno that I used to have.

As my it says at the bottom of all my posts, a '01 GasGas TXT200. Got it just over one year ago and love it. Best of all are the looks and comments that you get when you have it in the back of your truck. "What is that thing?" "How comes it don't got no seat?" And my all time favorite "Is it fast?";)

Trials Comp has a write up on the '02 GG 280 Pro. I'll post some tidbits when I get some time this week. The pictures of the engine size reduction are amazing! Only 3 clutch plates, direct acting kick starter and direct drive water pump, reduced transmission size and weight add up to like a 13 pound reduction in the engine!

My bike's got a seat - 80 something Honda TLR200. Needs new fork seals (got them, but no idea of what weight/height oil). It's a grey import. Haven't hit any trials yet, just taken it trail riding, which is fun but feels daft when I sit down ;)
Plans for this year include hitting a trial or two, and definitely riding it more often.
I'd love a newer bike, but there's no way I can justify spending more money on something I'm not really into. (due to other commitments, not lack of desire).
Oh, Henk (husband) has a 92 250 Fantic K'roo with the same complaints I do (except sitting, his doesn't have a seat lol - just the time thing).

Just bought a 2000 Sherco 2.5 (250) this fall. It is funny to watch first timers ride without a seat. It is amazing how much us dirt bike guys (and girls) rely on a seat, particularly when you get in trouble.

Michelle, I had a TLR back in the 80's. Bought it for a girlfriend at the time as a street bike for her and a play toy for me, but I never go to ride it much. Fun bike, once you get the jetting sorted out.

Michelle! Congrats! That's cool that you got a trials bike of your own now so Henk doesn't get to have all the fun ;)

When I can spring the cash, I'll probably go for a Montesa or Sherco but the new GG Pro is pretty trick.

Is that gearbox a 3 speed with a 2 speed to give 3X2=6?

Kiwi - I think its best if you check out the dealers in your area before buying a bike. Its nice to have spare parts available close by. We are lucky to have the local Beta distributor in our club, and he brings lots of spares to our events. Trials dealers are usually pretty hard to find when you need them, and you are lucky having the volume of bikes and dealers available other there.

The new GasGas Pro does look pretty good - I think that its the next step for 2 stroke trials bikes, and sets some pretty significant new standards in design. May be some of the technology will filter down to their enduro bikes??

The sad part is that with the cool technology for 2 strokes they will not be allowed in international trials competition in '05 from what I read. I imagine the transmision and other neat flyweight tricks will still apply though :)

Gidday Wayne etc

Yes I can confirm his old Beta was a nail. However no where as much as my ’89 Beta which is resplendent in it’s lack of usefulness.

JTX GasGas on it’s way next week I hope.

PS thanks for the ride on the 200, it was pretty sweet. Great area back of Woburn too.

Hey David and Wayne, I might be flying down to Wellington at the end of Febraury to do some riding with some friends done there. If it all works out I'd like to contact you before I leave and hook up. Tim Steeneken's offered to put me up at his place for a couple of weeks and Slappa just got back into town. What'd'ya say?

Yes do that. I have some of the wife's relatives from the UK staying with us from the 15th of february till the 20th of march, but I'll do what I can.

Theres a roving trial being held on the 23rd and 24th of February, which may be possible for you to fit in. The event is a memorial to James Lawton, who was the top expert rider ever from our area in recent times. This trial is set up to be fairly difficult - be warned, although they say they'll be puting in bypasses for riders like me!! :o I'll talk to his father and see if we can organise something for you to ride - it just depends on the delivery of 2002 model bikes that will arrive around that time on a very slow boat from Italy.

I picked up a '74 Montesa Cota 247 at Mid-Ohio this past summer. I got a pro to go through the engine and it ticks like a clock .. around my yard in the middle of DC that is. :debil:

Yea, eventually the truth about these bikes will start making it out there as well as all the GG marketing BS.

It may interest you all to know that:

- team GG has withdrawn from the Scottish Six days. Speculation is the bike is not durable enough to complete the event.
- Adam Raga has ripped the head tube out of the bike several times, even after adding additional gusseting to the frame.
- The bikes are suffering from overheating and seizure in the hands of the top riders. GG is re-engineering the cooling system on the bike.
- Weight has not broken the 150 mark, regardless of what the writeups say.

For those of you who will ask who my sources are, I'll ask that you provide your sources as to who can rebut this. I happen to have a friend who is plugged into the world trails scene and gets all the tidbits as to what is going on through his sources, and this is what is trickling in. Not trying to kick off a brand flame war as I believe at a high level that GG is trying to do things to advance the breed and help the sport. If I had the same type of news on any other brand I'd be sure and post it as well.

Let me get the latest insider news together on the FIM and 4 strokes and I'll post it the first part of next week. From that I've heard about this there will be some pretty groundshaking news hitting the press on this subject soon.

Trials bikes -

'01 Montesa Cota 315R - my FAVORITE BIKE, makes me feel like a kid again. Screw this long travel and whooped out trail BS.
'81 Montesa 349, never ridden off road, totally stock w/ working brake light and horn, 150 miles putting around some guy's yard, tool kit, owner's manual, C of O, the whole bit, looks like it just came out of the crate.
'73 Ossa Plonker MAR complete and running for vintage events
'73 Ossa Plonker MAR under construction restoration; NOTE - be wary of free motorcycles ;)
'73 Ossa Plonker MAR chassis waiting for powdercoating and replacing in the running MAR

I think I'll take what your source says as being more accurate than anything I'd read, in a heart beat :D .

I think he and I discussed this a tiny bit several weeks ago and it sounded like a 9.9 on the Richter scale!

Oooooh man, I see you have been adding to your toy box! I better stay waaaay away from you mister, as you are a bad influence on me ;)

Hey there’s a good idea!, maybe I should invent a pseudonym to agree with everything I say. Perhaps Tex & Pat are the same person??

Just joshing guys.;) ;) ;)

Thought it was old news that they were thinking of changing all over to diesels in competition in a year or so. Top level trials riders will have to start taking steroids & weight-lifting classes.

Went to buy a Gassa 250 on Monday only to find I was in the wrong Island from where the bike was, strange but true. Chasing it up country this weekend. If it’s a nail I’ll spew!!

Had a little ride of a new 200 & it was v.tempting.

No smartass, we are not the same person. Pat and I just happen to know the same person and carry the same opinion of his credibility.

You are right, what you state is old news. It's the details and the dates that are pretty shocking. Let me get the info together and post it, then maybe THEN you can take some shots at it... ;)
