I broke my tailbone on Monday...and that's not even the painful part...i also damaged my gluts and ligaments in the lower back region...and that's what really hurts.

Anyone had similar injuries? How long did it take you to recover?

I bruised mine pretty bad once, and it took all of a month before I could sit normal. I know your pain.

There are SEVERAL muscles that attach themselves to your tailbone as a central anchor point. It's used to help with balance and walking. I am glad I never broke that one. I hope you feel better soon.

Thanks for all the "Get Well" wishes. I'm back riding again and you're right about it not feeling quite right. It's still pretty swollen back there and the Dr. says it could stay that way for a year or so. If I come down on it hard I still feel it pretty good but other than that I'm doing MUCH better.

Thanks again......Ken

I broke my tailbone when I was 16 on a CR125. I started racing MX and Enduro again last year. I am now 33 and as long as I don't have a bad fall it gives me no probs. But be ready for some serious pain if you come off good. Lower back, knees, neck and groin will all give you hell.

Good Luck !

What did you do? (C'mon guys you all know you want to hear it ;) )
Seriously though, I bruised mine bicycle jumping and it was at least a month before
I was back to normal. I looped the bike going off of a steep jump and I landed right on the lip
of the jump with my tailbone. It's no fun I tell you that...

Ok...well I guess I owe all of you that replied the details...

essentially I was coming around a flat sweeper, speedway style, and my back tire hit a "Rock-berg" (you know them, they are those things that look like a relatively small rock but are well anchored to terra firma). It spun me like a top...much more violently than a "normal" high-side and tossed me high into the air...I landed right on my lower-back and tailbone area. I was going about 50-55mph when it happened. I never even saw the rockberg...I was in the air with just two thoughts, "What the heck just happened", and "This is really going to hurt"

The good news is I'm back riding and keeping a sharp look out for rockbergs.

Sorry Surfing, but I'm going on seven years and at the end of a 50 mile ride, I'm switching from cheek to cheek until I get some good rest. I also tore ligaments and its never been quite right after that. It's not real painful, just nagging. That is one bummer injury. Good luck.
