broken xr70 subframe

ive got a 1998 xr70 and the subframe which is welded to the frame has broken. seems water got in the tubes and has been sitting inside the tube at the weld. what is the best way to get this repaired? seems like it would be made of mild steel. how much of the bike should i disassemble before taking it to the welder? do i need to take the paint off the frame?

make sure you take the CDI box off the bike before welding. you'll have to clean up the rust with a wire brush. I would make a little gusset to brace it better.

good idea about the gusset and ill be sure to take the cdi off.
